Illinois Speaker to Host 4th Annual Blue Christmas Toy Drive and Fundraiser Dec. 10

CHICAGO – Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch is excited to bring back his annual Blue Christmas Toy Drive and Fundraiser for a 4th year. The event collects new toys and gifts for families in need this holiday season. It also raises funds for Democratic candidates across the state.

The event draws the who’s who in Illinois politics for fun, fellowship, and the opportunity to give families the magic of the holiday season.

“One of the reasons I enjoy my roles as Speaker, State Representative, and Committeeman so much is that we have the power to help people,” said Welch. “So many of us are in this business to help people. Each year, Blue Christmas allows us to do that in an immediate, really tangible way. This event also helps propel other Democrats who share a belief in helping people, and it spreads holiday magic to children across our communities. I hope everyone will join in, bring a gift, and get into the joy of the season.”

Each year, Speaker Welch partners with local organizations to buy, collect, and distribute toys to families. Last year, Welch partnered with Proviso Township Schools, Bright Star Community Outreach, and Lurie Children’s Hospital. This year, there will be giveaways at Proviso schools with PLCCA, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and Dream Academy, a local youth development organization.

The Blue Christmas Fundraiser boasts a reception-style gathering, Christmas hits, and an open bar. Valet parking will be available. Guests who donate a new toy during the event receive 50% off their fundraiser ticket. Attendees looking to make a bigger impact can become a Santa’s Helper Sponsor.

A Blue Christmas Toy Drive and Fundraiser will be held at Fogo de Chao, 1204 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, Illinois, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased online at secure.actblue.com/donate/bluechristmas2025. Attendees can also RSVP by emailing admin@hdemsIL.com.
