Cook County Commissioner Scott Endorses Welch for State Central

Congressman Davis endorsed the Speaker to replace him in early August. Since, there has been rising support of over 50 strong democratic and community leaders across the 7th, for Welch to serve.

Chicago, IL–Cook County Commissioner and longtime political leader in the 7th Congressional District, Michael Scott, has announced his support for House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch to serve as 7th District State Central Commtteeman, the post vacated by the retirement of the honorable Congressman Danny K. Davis.

“I am extremely proud to stand with Speaker Welch for the 7th District State Central Committee,” said Commissioner Scott. “I appreciate the work that he does not only in the western suburbs, but in uplifting Democrats across the state. I worked with Welch even before he was Speaker of the House. Throughout his service, he has been a leader, a collaborator, and a champion for our communities.”

Congressman Davis endorsed the Speaker to replace him in early August. Since then, there has been rising support of over 50 strong democratic and community leaders across the 7th, for Welch to serve. Scott served two terms as Alderman of the 24th Ward, working closely with residents and community organizations to drive economic growth, beautify the ward, and secure over $300 million in capital and human infrastructure investments. Scott also spearheaded job training programs to empower local residents with new skills and opportunities.

A proud native of the North Lawndale neighborhood, Scott. has dedicated his life to strengthening and empowering communities on Chicago's West Side.

Scott joins the ever-growing chorus of supporters for Speaker Welch. An Illinois State Central Committee person plays a crucial role in the governance and leadership of the Democratic Party at the state level. Their primary function is to represent their congressional district within their party's State Central Committee, which serves as the party’s governing body in Illinois. According to the latest census information, the 7th Congressional District has a population of 592,000. The population was 47% male and 53% female; 59% Black, 34% White, 7% Hispanic, 4% Asian.
